Are you new to jazz vibraphone? Does the idea of playing improvised music strike fear into your heart? Are you a teacher whose students want to learn improvisation, but you don't know how to teach it?

Whether you're a classical musician looking to break away from 'the page', an aspiring improvisor, or - even more importantly - a teacher who struggles with teaching improvisation...this course is for you.

Despite what people may think, improvising is not some gift from the heavens...it's a skill that is developed. And anyone can learn it.

To improvise, two things need to happen:

  1. You cannot be afraid of wrong notes

  2. You have to start with rhythm.

That's it.

This course addresses those issues by using 'call and response' as the main conveyor of information. Nothing is written, nothing to be studied ahead of time.

Just listen with your ears, and look with your eyes.

I play...you play.

In this course, you will learn how to apply different rhythms to a simple scale. You will learn a famous R&B/Funk song that's an absolute blast to jam to, and you will be improvising on your own before you know it!

It's my hope that after taking this course, you will have the desire to learn more, and go deeper into the harmony and the repertoire of jazz!

And if you are also a teacher - I hope your students will also benefit from this approach! Music is for everyone! So let's go and start jamming.

Here's the PDF - but honestly....try not to use it too much. This lesson works best with NO written music whatsoever. But I know that after the fact you may want to study the rhythms more closely, so here they are in written form.
