How To Use Voice Leading In Jazz Improv

Category: Tag:

This is an in depth look at how to create melodic lines that use strong voice leading – which leads to stronger melodies! The first half of the lesson focuses on melodic construction over a ii-V-I in Bb major, using both lower and upper structures.
The second half of the lesson demonstrates how this same voice leading concept can be applied to any chord progression, not just a ii-V-I.
The sheet music contains a full transcription, as well as explanations of how the voice leading relates to the improvised melodic lines. (6 pages).
